Type and image is the main focus of the project we are working on at the moment. I have been creating designs for different ways to show the word “disruption” by using various fonts and spacing. Artists like Ed Fellas work have fed into the designs I have chosen because I really like the way he uses font. To improve my designs I would probably take more inspiration of the layout of the words and play around with spacing and position rather then focusing purely on the font.

Another artist that I really liked was Marion Deuchars, what really stands out is her colour choices and how the type interacts with the images across the page.
Another example of Deuchars work that really stood out was the simple layout of the book below. She manages to put a simple drawing and a really simple composition and create a powerful page that stands out.

I’d quite like to do something inspired by the artist Tim Abare because I love the use of colour which is something my designs lack, so I think it would be interesting to play with different colours and positive vs negative for the word disruption. I also like the fact that although the piece below is quite confusing and theres a lot going on, theres still a message in it and also it may be a flyer for a coffee house but you can also picture it in a gallery as an actual structure which would be interesting to try do some designs of text as a 3D model rather then just font on a page.

The Dadaist Movement is something I would love to integrate into my work I really like how the letters overlap to create this large mess of letters and words that you cant really focus on. The colours used are also really interesting, quite dull yet they serve the purpose of bringing it all together and make it stand out.

The collages from the Dada period in Berlin manage to mix text and images seamlessly to the point where you the text becomes a part of the overall image. I love the ideas and imaginative scenes that are created and how the text that has been added in creates an even more surreal feeling to the collages.
I would like to further my designs by adding colour and looking at positioning of each word to create a text design that becomes an image in itself. I also want to try using longer sentences that include the word and see how I can make the word disruption stand out or blend in.
