Is this the future of play?

Our new project is surrounding sustainable futures, we were given four topics that we could focus on, body, home, work, and play. After a session of brainstorming with my group, I decided to go ahead with the theme of play. In this project, I want to focus on the future of technology, specifically Virtual Reality and how this could affect our futures for better or worse.

To get this started I brainstormed with a group of friends any ideas we might have that surrounds the theme of play

The points that really interested me was the one about the VR treadmills/ accessories that would mean you never would have to leave your house which reminded me of one of my favorite movies called Ready Player One. Another one that interested me was the decision-making game that people my friend suggested people may play in the future to get them through life kind of like Bandersnatch on Netflix, and how people would pay to get answers to rich lifestyle for example and it would just lead to everyone having similar personalities and all just go wrong really.

I have a lot of research behind the idea of VR and what could happen, however, I’m not too sure what I’m going to do with its art wise. For the moment I’m looking at the cyberpunk art movement as It’s really interested me with all of the colors and arrangments. Also I love the characters that are created, its as if every person in this futuristic world is completely different which makes you think about fashion and what it would include, if clothes would include machinery or if everyone has coloured hair..etc

To get me started I wanted to take photos of someone wearing a headset, I haven’t got access to one, however, I’m planning to make one out of cardboard so I can take images and then digitize them to create really cool images. I want to play with projections as well, the image above looks projected on the face which would be cool. And I also want to play more on the computer with editing and photoshop.

I took a photo off of google to kind of playground with it on photoshop and illustrator to edit it and at the moment it’s looking alright, however, I’m going to look up tutorials online to help better my knowledge on how to make a photograph look more graphicy if that makes sense.

I also love surreal space collages which I thought could be interesting in this project, I’ve previously made a few before just for fun, however I could make some new ones and tie it to the future and explore possible new activities children would be doing/seeing through VR.

A quick collage I did online ages ago, which I would make more of for this project

I found out that some artists create actual art on VR headsets aswell which I found really interesting because even art which can be a very phycial practice is becoming digital more and more as we move into the future, and it has implications that one day will art be soley digital ??

Also I found that people have even started creating VR cinema posters, and as someone who loves movies this could be very fun as you would be able to virtually interact with your favourite movie characters or virtually put yourself into the movie trailers and experience it “first hand”.

The idea would be that you could move and look around the movie, however this could open doors for the movie business and people who offer film experiences, what would theme parks like Harry Potter world for example be like in 10, 20 years?
